zombivival 2.0

Post by lordwok » Thu Jun 18, 2015 2:24 am

ok first things first, i played zombvival a fair bit when it first came out but the frequency and ease you got infected (which basically ended your game) drove me up the wall, sure you might get lucky and survive a trip to the hospital occasionally but then you would become infected again almost immediately...

eventually this caused me to just quit, the whole turn-into-a-zombie thing basically killed any attempts at living a long life for me.

i like the new game and it seems like the infection rate has been toned down a little but the new UI is killing me brainbox :(

everything you do causes a long loading screen.... i have a Gaming PC with plenty of grunt but this browser game has me reclicking failed loads and watching load icons WAYYYY too much... in the end i just lose my temper half the time and X the page :( i know its an early build but the optimization has a loooong way to go. i started gameing back in the 80s when you would load your game from cassette disk onto your commodore 64 for hours so im no raw millennial but its 2015 now and i kind of stopped having any sympathy for this sort of thing a long time ago.

which brings me to the next killjoy, i understand why you have be logged out if your not active for a bit, but you would expect to press a button and get back in the action... instead you press login, then get rid of the popup messages which says hello (argh everytime?) then press a THIRD time to get rid of another fucking button... please one login is fine, two is tolerable but 3 is infuriating. you just want to stop by and check up on things... not click over and over just to see your character.

dont get me wrong i enjoy the concept and the game itself seems to have come along nicely but the new build and format has some teething problems. reading over this post even to me it sounds like these are minor grievences but when you go to quickly check up on your game or suffer through a failed loading screen then watch the icon again... then 10-15 seconds later youve accomplished one action it seems to drag out and make me want to lose my shit :)

1. I'm not brainbox, I can't speak for him, but this message is baiting me to reply.
2. Load times? I have a less than stellar computer, but I run zombvival just fine.
3. Log outs, personally I don't see a problem with it so much, I agree staying logged in longer would be a good improvement, but not necessary.
4. Good to see you again man, maybe we can get in a game together sometime.

yer i dont know what the deal is but sometimes the loading screen just pauses and fails altogether and i have to refresh the page... most of the time it takes around 5 second to complete one action.

when you have to produce a bunch of stuff or do time-critical actions it gets so frustrating.

i am playing a game with cethegus at the moment :) like i said i liked the game but the zombie infection always ended up ruining any long-term games i had going so i stopped playing.

loving the new content but the new UI is murder....

Actually, the game has LESS loading times than the previous Version.

Right now, you have load times when opening the map or any of the upgrade/crafting menus. (And whenever you actually do stuff, oft course). Also, the amount of data that has to be transmitted for each load has been reduced as well. It would help if you could give me an example oft what you routinely do that forces endless loading times upon you.

As for the logouts, that is unfortunately beyond my control, because my hosting provider has a limit on how long a single session can be active until it is deleted. I'm looking into changing my hosting in the future, but no ETA yet.

its not ingame its when your loading it up.

basically for a browser game you should press one login button and be looking at your character...

instead i go back to the page the zombivial evolved message comes up with a loading cog, load languages(this happens twice alot of the time for some reason), press login, press the welcome back message, press the "back to game" button, loading savegame screen, zombivival evolved loading cog again... THEN you are looking at your game.

this is cumulatively 30ish seconds some of the time... sometimes it seems to go faster but most of the time its about 20-30 seconds seems average.

there is obviously a fair bit going on under the hood this build but like i said above there is something whacky going on... its not my internet i have a 4mb/s connection and nothing else is running poorly.

could be a chrome issue?

at any rate the new build performs nothing like the old zombvival, not even in the same ballpark.. to suggest it actually loads FASTER is simply not the case

Well... Then I suppose it must be a problem with Chrome. All loading times combined take around 5 seconds with my connection (Firefox, 2MB/s). The only thing that sometimes takes a bit longer is loading the news. I would suggest disabling Addons like Adblock for ZombVival, as they slow down the game considerably - especially if you're using a memory hog like chrome.

I’m working on reducing the frequent logouts, so that should at least help a little.

It could be a Chrome issue, I occasionally get issues like that whenever I play using Chrome. However its only occasional so it doesn't really bother me, most of the time its fine and I have bad internet and a computer that can barely run minecraft on low settings.

Maybe your computer is so good it gets offended when trying to run something like zombvival.

Idk what browser you're using, I use Firefox and when I used Zomb on Chrome the load times were significantly faster, I mean like a second, on FF it takes almost 5 seconds (I play 1 minute ticks btw) :D

Returned to game after long hiatus, Current build is running great and gameplay-wise things have moved forward nicely. This game has continued to be developed years past when MT put die2nite in mothballs.

Kudos @Brainbox you have put much work into this project and you should be proud of what you have accomplished.
