Unbalance in the earning of Soulpoints

Post by Ganzje » Sat Feb 07, 2015 6:40 pm

I know that soulpoints don't mean anything (do they?) and aren't used for many things (although you need them to unlock things at first, or did this change?).
But some game modes seem to be very unbalanced.

If you compare for instance survival and hardcore mode, you'll have to survive for a couple of weeks to be able to earn 1k+ soulpoints. To my knowledge, it will be very hard (if not impossible) to earn those points in a very short notice in real time (couple of hours for instance).

In zombie massacre mode for instance, you can manage to earn a couple of hundred soulpoints in roughly one or two days ingame playtime. Not much effort needed for this compared to the other game modes.

Playing Last scout mode, i just discovered that you can earn pretty high amounts of soulpoints being at almost 6k points. This isn't something new, i noticed someone earned 20k+ soulpoints in one game in one of the earlier seasons.
Granted you'll have to survive a lot longer than a few days, but it doesn't seem very balanced at all.

Not sure if it needs fixing either, but i hadn't criticized anything lately ;)

I join Ganzje. :) I see it as well!
A long survival of weeks (just after the 2nd or 3rd week) should be rewarded considerably higher than anything else.

I feel like the earning of Soul Points seems fair in Survival and in Multi. The thing that needs Debuffed is the other game modes. Maybe less score/ points for whatever the objective was in the other Game Mode.

Yeah the problem/unbalance isn't in survival, it's in the other game modes.

Illustration: i've got 15 24/7 achievements, yet i'll end up (almost) doubling my soulpoints in one single week.

Yea, I feel like the balancing of the Survival and Multi where fair enough, it takes a fair amount of time to stack a good score on whatever profession you are. Yet I played Last Scout on the Beta, and got 77 Soul Points in like a day in game, and all I did was map out somewhere around 6 places to a 75% or 100%. Not saying these modes aren't fun though, they're great. But it needs more balancing in the form of debuffing. Maybe make it like 4 soul points for a full scan per area (1 point for how well it's mapped, 25% - 1, 50% - 2, etc...). So scanning a total of 16 places would be 64 SP, which seems fair enough. At least more fair than as it currently is. As for Zombie Massacre, I've never played. So I'll let someone who played choose on what's best for it.

Not exactly sure how the points are counted but i'm pretty sure (Brainbox might confirm this) that points earned in Last Scout mode depend as well on how far the zone you're mapping is from your base.

So say you're mapping a zone 60 AP (energy) from your hideout, currently you're getting something like 60*x(some number, depending on what % you map it) points.
x might be 4 not sure, didn't do any math or check that closely.

Imagine now having a big pile of drugs at your disposal and having the camp site discovered -> potentially thousands of points!

Maybe for balance purposes you can work with "zones":

- everything scouted within a distance of x km (example 10) gets 1 base points
- everything scouted within a distance of x and y km (example 20) gets 2 base points
- etc.
