Dies overnight

Post by Rafe » Fri Nov 15, 2013 2:04 pm

Yesterday, I joined a multiplayer game, I made sure my character would be fine, and chose the one event every 15 minutes option to be sure I would not have surprises today.

But now my character is dead, "multiple organ failure"

I think we need a way to avoid this. Maybe adding more options for time pass, like one event each hour or even one every five hours (to make sure only one event happens that night)

Another thing that can be done is adding towns with even time, where we can pause it for our characters and go to sleep. Or just logging off to pause the events for our accounts.

In multiplayer games, everyone has (limited) control over the time flow. When players pick different game speeds in a game, the server decides on an average speed to use for all players. So what probably happened is that other players in your game chose a faster speed, which caused the game to accelerate. That's why communication with other players is important.

Unfortunately, different speeds for players in a game is technically impossible; so you can't have one player pause time for himself, while all the others can continue playing.

If I kept water and food in my inventory, would I survive the night?

No, you have to actively drink and eat.

Actually thats a good idea if you have food/water that you can eat with out dieing then your character should automatically eat it if its needed.

I have been in enough online games to know this is never true. Whenever someone (usually administrators or developers) says this or that is impossible, I just point them to a game with that exact feature. Maybe having different speeds for players is not in your plans, or you do not know how to do it, but please, do not say things that are not true. It confuses players and gives a bad impression when they find out it was possible.

OK, then let me rephrase my previous statement.

I'm sure that it would be technically possible to develop a game where all the players are playing in different time streams. However, the way ZombVival's system core is set up, having different time streams for each player would require me to basically rewrite the game from scratch. Since I'm pretty sure you don't want to wait 14 month for the next season, I'd consider implementing this feature "impossible", as there is no way for me to do this without losing my entire community. Remember, I'm only one single guy who's doing this in his spare time.

Brain, you don't need to rephrase!

It is logically impossible, to have different game speeds for different players of the same game.

Just compare it with reallive!
You cant have one who needs 30 seconds to get 5 minutes round and another one who needs 15 minutes to pass 5 minutes around…
